How much does your bug out playing cards game information weigh?
Which means I make difficult choices about what to bring and what to leave behind.
I take the same weight-conscious approach when because all things being equal lighter is better.
However, I always have a bit of room for a deck of cards.
That might sound surprising.
At first thought, games may not seem essential, but they play an important role in survival by keeping morale high.
A group with no morale has no drive — no will to survive.
A lot of work well in a bug out bag because they require little or no equipment.
A deck of playing cards is at the top of my list because it only weighs about 3 and a half ounces, yet you can do so much with it.
The obvious ones are card games, like poker, solitaire, bulls, gin rummy, and a hundred others.
Like a good survivalist, I prefer each piece of gear to serve multiple purposes.
Here are my 6 personal favorite survival playing cards.

There are a number of survival decks I like, each for different reasons.
For Wilderness Survival My go-to deck for wilderness survival is from SEA and SKY because the cards are so dense with wilderness information.
I enjoy just sitting and reading the cards.
A few negative points are that the print is so small, some people visit web page have trouble reading it.
Only 3 cards in the deck have illustrations useful knots, animal tracks, ground-to-air and Morse codesthe rest is all link />Also, the cards a little flimsy.
The deck more than makes up for it by the sheer volume of information you get.
For Mountaineering The from The Mountaineers is focused on wilderness travel in the high mountains.
It has a special place in my heart because its content comes from the excellent book that got me started in backpacking, by Steven M.
It contains almost nothing about, or.
It covers things like hypothermia, frostbite, and altitude sickness.
The cards are especially thick.
Because of that, this deck is a playing cards game information thicker and heavier than most playing cards.
It weighs in at 115 grams and is 25 mm thick, compared to 98 grams and 19 mm for the Discover Wilderness Survival deck.
For Urban Survival I spend a lot of time in the woods, so I practice wilderness survival in case I get stuck out there.
This deck has a lot of unique survival tips likewith bleach, getting emergency water from your water heater, and preserving refrigerated food after a power outage.
For Identifying Edible Plants by Linda Runyon is a fun deck that a lot of survivalists would be interested in.
Each card covers a common.
The back of the card has a full-color photograph of the plant.
The front has its description, including which parts to eat and how to prepare them.
This deck has a number of plants that I see on a daily basis around my home in San Francisco, like dock, thistle, mallow, stinging nettle, and chickweed.
Also, I wish some of the photos were taken closer so that I could see more detail.
Still, these cards are great for learning about and are usable for casual card games.
Instead of teaching survival skills, the purpose of these cards is to start a conversation.
Each card describes a debatable end of the world scenario and asks what you would do, for example: Playing cards game information hear a noise in the back of your house, and you find 12 orphans scavenging for food from your playing cards game information cans.
They appear to be kids under 6 years of age.
Plus it would take extra manpower to watch over all of them, and you can spare little since everyone in your camp is constantly exhausted from hard work and rationed meals.
Leaving these kids to their fates would mean their deaths, or worse.
How would deal with this situation?
The official game is to read a card aloud, have everyone say what they would do, and then each person vote on the best answer.
This is a good way to learn about your friends, their morals, and how they match up with yours.
Heavier cards are also bulkier but seem more durable.
Deck Weight Deck Thickness 98 grams 19 mm 116 grams 25 mm 111 grams 20 mm 91 grams 17 mm 92 grams 17 mm All cards were the size of typical poker cards, playing cards game information />As A Way To Introduce You To Skilled Survival, We're Giving Away Our Ultimate Survival Gear Checklist.

This unit of playing cards is called a trick — your success in many competitive card games hinges on how many tricks you win during the course of play. (Again, however, some games feature trying to win specific valuable cards rather than simply trying to obtain the majority of the tricks.) So the high card takes the trick.

Introduction Playing Cards undoubtedly originated in China.
Stuart Culin, the American games historian, did the most original research in this area and he concluded that they appeared before 1200AD in that country and were introduced to Europe in the 13th century.
The cards to the right are Tarot cards owned by Charles VI of France, dated at 1392.
Origin of Playing Cards and Dominoes - Chinese Money Cards The original Chinese cards appear to have been related to the Chinese paper money of the time.
In fact it seems likely that people created the cards by copying paper money and then both played with and for these cards!
A pack of Chinese cards were not at all like European cards of today.
There were two main types of Chinese Playing Card: Kwan Pa'i playing cards contain only three suits - coins, strings of coins and myriads of strings of coins.
The honour card is called the "White Playing cards game information />A myriad represents 10 strings of 10 coins.
Each of these was illustrated with a portrait of a character from the old Chinese folk tale "The story of the River Banks" plus the chinese symbol for the appropriate number.
The honour card was called "Old thousand".
Lut Chi was the other main type of playing cards - these appeared in the South of China which has an switch card game tactics suit - you guessed it - tens of myriads of coins.
Lut Chi cards have 4 suits and superficially some pictures of the suits bear a resemblance to the original playing card suits of Asia and Europe playing cards game information />So therefore Culin and others have assumed that these formed the basis for European cards.
This is not unreasonable but one should bear in mind that there doesn't appear to be any actual direct evidence for the link between Chinese and European cards so definite assertions of the ancestry should be treated with caution.
One style of playing cards illustration had the pips representing the number prominently displayed at the top and bottom of the card with the picture itself being a square at the centre of the thin here />This style is called domino cards and these eventually evolved into the game of dominoes.
History of European Playing Cards There are several competing but inconclusive theories for the arrival of playing cards in Europe.
Tiresomely, you will find these repeated on numerous Internet sites including Wikipedia and they all tout their theory as undeniable fact.
Don't believe what you read - most of them are written by plagiarists copying what is probably utter poppycock.
Indian cards are traditionally round with 8 to 12 suits and no readily apparent synonym with European cards.
Ganjifeh, the ancestor of the more modern game of Ganjifa, was the game that was played with these cards but there is no evidence that was ever played before 1500.
There is a chance that this theory is true but there is also no evidence for As Nas prior to 1600 so it seems pretty unlikely.
Having dismissed all the above, what is generally accepted is that in the late 1300s, the Mamelukes of Egypt introduced their style of cards to Europe.
A pack of Mameluke cards consisted of four "suits" frankly, crazy nines card game that 13 cards each, just like modern playing cards.
The story behind how the Mamelukes came by their style of cards and whether there is a link through the Middle East to the Chinese cards is unknown, as yet.
The earliest references to cards in Europe are mostly in France the records of King Charles VI show that he bought 3 packs in 1392.
These original cards featured four suits Cups, Swords, Coins and Batons of 14 cards each - there was an additional card in each suit - the "Cavalier" or "Mounted Valet", the lowest of the four court cards.
These suits are still the suit of choice in most Latin countries such as Spain and Italy, today.
Additionally, there were also 22 extra "high cards" with individualistic designs which may have come from ancient Egyptian mysticism.
Each card was individually painted; often a unique work of art in its own right, fit only for the very rich.
These then were packs of Tarot cards although they were used for playing games as well as for divining the future.
The Europeans adopted a wide range of different suits and styles according to local playing cards game information and the preference of the person drawing the cards.
Sometimes 5 suits were evident, instead of 4.
Playing cards with suits of Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and Hearts first appeared in France in the late 1400s.
The French have a story to account for this.
link were supposedly invented by a famous knight, Etienne Vignoles who went by the pseudonum of Lahire.
He designed them to accompany his newly invented card game of Piquet.
The individuality of the earlier cards and the Cavalier card were eliminated in these packs of 36 cards.
Another theory claims that the four suits represent the four classes of person at the time - military, peasantry, clergy and aristocracy.
But in fact, there is a third more straightforward theory that is most likely the correct one see later.
The English adopted this regime from France, the first English reference to cards being from 1462 when they were banned by parliamentary decree.
Later on the colonialism of England and France resulted in this style of cards arriving all over the world so that it is now the most popular design.
Because they begain to export their playing cards game information cheap decks of cards to other European nations, the German influence in card design was probably the largest.
So another far more likely theory for the design invention of Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs and Spades is that the French just based these upon the German choices with the Leaves transposing to Spades, the Acorns to Clubs and the Bells to Diamonds somewhat tenuous this last one but no other theories are postulated.
The picture on the left shows some 16th century cards held at the Bodleian.
The suits here are Roses, Pomegranates, Vine leaves and Acorns.
From this basis, the use of playing cards grew around the world via trade and colonialism.
History of Card Games There are tens of thousands of card games that have been invented over the years, thousands of which are played today so it is very easy to get bogged down in the detail.
To keep things simple, the author has broken down the stories of the main families of card games that remain popular to this day and put each one on a separate page.
This is work in progress - other games will appear here over time.
