As a player, Benard was an active participant in the Giants community outreach programs especially with CARECEN Central American Resource Center in San Franciscoa center that provides advocacy to help create a vibrant and thriving Latino immigrant community in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Benard currently volunteers his time with the Major League Alumni Association bringing baseball to the youth of developing countries.
In 2015, Benard was the hitting coach for the Tri-Cities Dust Devils, the short season Single A team for the San Diego Padres.
In March 2016, Benard managed the Nicaragua national team that participated in the World Baseball Classic qualifier.
